DENISON, Texas (KXII) - Four families are displaced after a fire at a Denison apartment complex Tuesday morning.
Firefighters say it started around 10 a.m. at the Vines Apartments on West Sears near Mirick.
The fire started in the kitchen area of a second-floor apartment and was quickly put out.
The apartment below suffered water damage and the two neighboring apartments had smoke damage.
One tenant, who lives a few doors down, says she was just getting home and worried for her kids.
“It didn’t hit me at first until I pulled up and I was looking. I was like, oh my gosh the apartment complex is on fire. And then I started crying, and then I zoomed over and I saw my mom and them outside. I was so panicked,” said Tatianna Briscoe.
The on-duty Denison Fire battalion chief says the families are staying at a local church until they get help from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
