SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - Inmates at the Grayson County jail will soon have greater access to mental health services.

Grayson County Commissioners approved an agreement with the Texoma Community Center to provide mental health services for inmates in the county jail.

Capt. Sarah Bigham said the agreement will allow the county to determine what need exists for mental health services.

“What is required is we have to have a mental health presence in the jail by Sept. 1 2020. We already have some mental health services that are provided in the jail. These two new agreements will help us in defining what those different types of assessments are and the different costs the county is going to have to provide to TCC to be able to provide those services into our facility,” Bigham said.

Under the current system, inmates receive crisis assistance on a case-by-case basis.
