DENISON, Texas (KXII) - In preparation for the 2020-2021 school year, the Denison Independent School District is proposing a $1.69 million budget deficit.

The district says this year’s budget was designed under a normal operated school year budget, meaning no cuts have been made to the existing budget.

Randy Reid with Denison ISD says the reason for the deficit is from one-time COVID-19 expenditures of disinfectants, personal protective equipment for everyone and additional custodial staff, only adding necessities i,operative to keeping faculty and students safe when returning to school.

”We do hope that a lot of these expenditures that we’re making for disinfectant that eventually we may get some reimbursement for it through FEMA and some other sources,” Reid said.

The budget proposal is being present at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
