PARIS, Texas (KXII) - The North Lamar Independent School District has canceled a nearly $50 million school bond set for the November election.

The North Lamar Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Tuesday to cancel the $48.9 million bond.

“I don’t think it is fair to the taxpayers right now.  They are under enough stress.  A lot of them don’t know where their next check is coming from or anything else.  We desperately need this bond to pass, but I just think it is bad timing,” said board member Stephen Holmes.

The election had originally been set for May but was pushed back to November due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Voters in the district will still be filling two open seats on the school board.
