ARDMORE, Oklahoma (KXII) - A local Ardmore non profit has been collecting school supplies to give kids what they need for a successful semester.

At the beginning of the month, FUEL Ardmore began collecting school supplies such as crayons, backpacks and flash drives to donate to the Grace Center.

Studies show that children who start the year with all the necessary supplies tend to be happier, healthier, and more successful academically.

FUEL President Sarah Johnson says the organization wanted to make sure all students can begin the year with that advantage.

“It’s just been our mission all along to help make them start on that level playing field,” Johnson said. “That way they can succeed and achieve on their own merit without starting behind their peers.”

Johnson said that all of the supplies and money will be benefiting students.

Donations and checks will be accepted until Friday, and can be brought to Main Street Coffee, Eileen’s Colossal Cookies, or several other locations available on the Facebook page.

Checks can be made out to FUEL Ardmore.
