ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Southern Oklahoma counties have seen an uptick in active coronavirus cases and hospitalization.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health rational 8 Director Mendy Spohn said there is an 88 case increase from Monday.

Nearly 195 cases in region 8 are active between Pontotoc to Love counties and Stephens to Marshall. 53 of those cases are in Carter County.

Despite the uptick, Spohn said her region has the slowest rate of spread in Oklahoma.

“That’s not something to brag about because that can change at any moment. But we’re definitely on a slower trend than the rest of the state. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have active cases and don’t have issues we need to address,” said Spohn
