Sherman shooting range set to open after renovations
SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - A new shooting range is in the works and being renovated in Sherman.
The owner said he is transforming the old building to keep business local.
“What we’re doing now that we’re acquiring the property is installing all-new state of the art equipment,” said Tap Smith, Blackbeard Armory and Range co-owner.
Smith is partnering with the owner at Blackbeard Marine.
He said the building on Texoma Parkway has been a gun range for more than two decades and was most recently Red River Firearms.
Smith said for anyone who has been before, it will look completely different once renovations are complete.
“It will be a full retail gun store with accessories, it also is an indoor range, climate-controlled, all of the best and modern environment for the air, sound, and safety,” Smith said.
Smith also has a firearm training business, Triple Tap Training. He will be offering training courses for all skill levels.
“We can start out with someone who has absolutely no knowledge of firearms and go with the basic training class, we also do offer the LTC classes, license to carry, so you can carry open or concealed,” Smith said.
Smith said he also managed a gun store for almost a decade. He said he saw how the need grew once the previous range shut down.
“Indoor range people started coming in after this place started closing going where can we go, and they’re tired of driving to the Metroplex so this is actually a great thing to keep our retail business here in Sherman,” Smith said.
Smith said the retail side will have everything from handguns and ammo to rifles, optics, and night vision.
“Anything that’s available for firearms and the firearms owner, we’ll have here,” Smith said.
Smith said they plan to open the retail portion at the end of the month, and the goal is to get the range done by the end of the year.
