HOWE, Texas (KXII) - When you start several freshmen, including your quarterback, that is the definition of a young football team.
That was the case in Howe last year who went 3-7. You can tell the talent is there and for Bulldog fans they can’t wait to see what it looks like as this young team continues to develop.
“(The) freshmen got a whole year of experience under their belt,” head coach Bill Jehling said. “That’s going to be big this year. The first Friday night game last year, their eyes were going 100 miles per hour. Now that they know what the expectations are on Friday night, that’s a good stepping stone for those kids.”
The future can’t come fast enough but this team is focused on the present. They are young, but they are capable. The Bulldogs head into a difficult 3A division I district but they plan to be a factor.
“They are coming in with a chip on their shoulder because they see that everyone is counting us out,” Jehling said. “We are taking the mentality in the locker room of David versus Goliath. That is our role for this year is that we are going to conquer Goliath every Friday night.”
