ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - The Oklahoma Blood Institute is holding a community blood drive Wednesday in Ardmore in hopes of getting more O-negative blood.

The drive will start at 11 a.m. and run till 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the American Nation Bank Presidential Hall in Ardmore.

OBI’s senior account manager Michelle McGuire said right now they have less than a day’s supply of o negative blood, the blood type that everyone can accept.

McGuire said OBI also wants to get more donations of convalescent plasma.

“Convalescent plasma is the blood product that you can give that will go directly to a COVID patient,” McGuire said. “With the rise in COVID we have so many patients in the hospital needing that convalescent plasma. You can now come to one of our blood drives and give convalescent plasma if you were COVID positive.”

McGuire says the pandemic has greatly impacted OBI’s blood supply.

Donors need to wear a mask and bring a photo I.D.
