AUSTIN, Texas (KXII) - The Dodd City Lady Hornets defeated D’Hanis 8-4 in the class 1A softball state championship game Wednesday. The win was the programs first softball state championship, but their second girls state title in the last three months, with the girls basketball team winning state in March.

“It feels great. It feels like all that time we put in paid off,” said head coach Bruce Mauppin. “I told those basketball girls who won it, they had a chance to win 2 in one year, and they got it.”

“We came out ready to play. We did not want to lose, we wanted revenge,” said Dodd City first base Journie Hilliard. “We got our revenge in basketball, and we wanted our revenge in softball too. We got that today.”

“We’re great teammates to each other, we work hard,” said Dodd City pitcher Lindsey Mauppin. “We do it for each other. I think that’s what gives us an edge.”

“It feels amazing, we did this in basketball, just a couple months ago,” said pitcher Tori Dotson. “Two times, back to back, it’s an indescribable feeling. Can’t believe it.”

Dodd City capped off a 17-3 season, with a win on the biggest stage.
