Gunter earns spot in baseball state tournament
NEVADA, Texas (KXII) - The Gunter Tigers finished off a regional final series sweep over Atlanta on Thursday. Gunter scored two runs in the 2nd inning, then added the another four in the 4th inning. Gunter pitcher Riekkhan Bostick threw a complete game shut-out. The 6-0 win puts Gunter in the baseball state tournament for the 8th time in school history, the first time since 2001.
“It’s amazing how we made it there,” said Gunter pitcher Riekkhan Bostick. “At the beginning of the season, we had a little bit of doubts. But now, we’re rolling. It’s awesome.”
“It’s crazy. I mean, I have dreamed of this for the past four years,” said Gunter outfielder Garrett Vogel. “The fact that we’re able to do it in my last time here, is just amazing, a dream come true.”
“It’s so special. Words can’t explain it,” said Gunter coach Daryl Hellman. “We want to be excited, but we’re not done. We still have an opportunity to go down there and represent our town and our school. Hopefully we play well and do something special.”
Gunter will play in the state semi-finals on Friday, June 11th. The time and opponent are to be determined.
