Broken glass found at Davis splashpad and playground
DAVIS, Okla. (KXII) - Davis police are investigating the brand new splash pad and playground at Fullerton park after several children were cut by broken glass on the ground on Saturday.
Davis police chief Dan Cooper said the glass looked like it was spread in the park on purpose.
“It looked like it had bottled glass and panes of glass mixed in with it,” Cooper said. “[The city employees] had picked up a couple of handfuls of it.”
Since then, city employees have extensively cleaned out the pad and playground, and it’s back open for kids to play.
Splashpad visitors Nixon and Carson said they wear water shoes now. It isn’t as fun as going barefoot, but its better than getting hurt.
“If there’s glass on the splashpad I don’t want to get hurt,” Carson said.
“You might bleed,” Nixon added.
Mom Chade Bradstreet said she’s frustrated that someone would do this.
“I saw a post about it on Facebook, I think it was last week,” Bradstreet said. “It made me very mad, because my kids love coming out here and people are already trying to tear it up.”
Bradstreet said she’s taking extra precautions so her kids can still beat the heat at the splashpad.
“When we got here we walked the splashpad and made sure there wasn’t any glass,” Bradstreet said. “And then we brought their water shoes just in case.”
Davis police said they’re putting up cameras and increasing patrol in the area so that it won’t happen again.
