Lauren Rangel joined the News 12 team in June of 2021.
She graduated from Southern Methodist University in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in political science. Lauren was involved with SMU-TV's The Daily Update, where she won several awards, including a Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Award for In-Depth Video Reporting and a 2020 Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalist for COVID-19 Video Coverage. Lauren also wrote and produced podcasts for The Daily Campus, SMU's student-run website.
She interned with the NPR Dallas affiliate, KERA. Lauren's reporting aired locally in DFW, state-wide, and on a local/national podcast. She also worked on Think, a nationally syndicated talk show.
Before transferring to SMU, she found her passion for journalism at Stephen F. Austin State University. In Nacogdoches, Lauren worked for the local ESPN station and was involved in student media.
Lauren is from Farmers Branch, Texas, but is excited to explore Texoma. In her free time, Lauren enjoys hanging out with her friends and family. She loves to cook, read, and listen to a good podcast too.
