Christy Waite joined the News 12 team in July of 2019 as Morning & Midday Anchor.

Christy is a Dean’s List graduate from Eastern New Mexico University, where she graduated with her degree in Broadcast Journalism. She has 8 years of broadcasting experience, anchoring and reporting in both news and sports. Seven of those years were spent in the Albuquerque market, where she covered everything from crime to semiprofessional sports. She has had the opportunity to interview Dez Bryant, Arian Foster, and Brian Wilson.

Christy took a year off from broadcasting after she won Miss New Mexico and represented her home state on the national stage. This was the first time she publicly shared her story of overcoming child abuse and homelessness. During her Miss New Mexico reign, Christy traveled across the state sharing her story with homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, jails, schools, and churches. She sat on the board of directors for non-profit charities who advocate for battered families, women, and children. She founded the New Mexico Hunger Games, an annual charity drive that raised more than $500 and over 350 pounds of donations to those in need.

When her reign as Miss New Mexico came to an end, she moved to Wyoming where she was a news and sports anchor/reporter. She covered the University of Wyoming’s quarterback, Josh Allen, who was a first-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills. As a news reporter, she was on the front lines for wildfire and tornado coverage, and covered the Democratic nominees for the gubernatorial election, and she was first on scene when the Republican Headquarters was set on fire and vandalized.

In her free time, Christy enjoys being adventurous outdoors, hanging out with friends, playing sports, working out, eating candy, and spending time with her dog, Bandit. She is equally passionate about being a positive role model for all, especially for young girls and women. She is so excited to be covering Texas and Oklahoma, working for you and telling your stories.
