14 acres burned in Thackerville grass fire

THACKERVILLE, Okla. (KXII) - Love County Emergency Management Director, AshLeigh Gillham, says the fire started from a control burn.

The fire spread through the land between Triple Crown Lane and I-35 South just next to the Thackerville exit.

Gillham says it took nine fire departments to put out the fire that burned 14 acres of land.

Nobody was hurt.

Gillham says the county had just issued a burn ban that went into effect just about two hours before the fire started.

She says that even when a burn ban is not in effect, folks should still take precautions.

"Before you burn at all, call your local dispatch," Gillham said,
"Let them know so that they can report it and we don't have everyone looking out for fire that has already been called in."

The burn ban will be in effect until Dec. 19th.
