Icy overpass blamed in Murray Co. crash that killed 2

DAVIS, Okla. (KXII) - Two people were killed and two more were seriously injured in a crash caused by an icy patch on an overpass early Thursday morning on Interstate 35 in Murray County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, it happened in the northbound lanes at mile marker 47, approximately 4 miles south of Davis.

Troopers said a sedan driven by Zacchaeus Hodges, 24, of Irving, Texas, collided with a semi just after 1 a.m.

Two passengers in the car, Erica Womack, 18, of Ft. Worth, and Daniel Ellison, 24, of Burleson, Texas, were killed in the crash.

A third passenger, Charles Sulton, 21, of Ft. Worth, was flown to a Dallas hospital in critical condition.

And a fourth passenger, Bryce Gusman, 20, of Ft. Worth, was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital in serious condition.

Hodges, nor the truck driver were injured.

In a Facebook post, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said that Hodges hit an ice patch on an overpass, causing it to strike the cable barrier and then go back into the lane of travel where it was struck by the semi.

Troopers said the conditions of both drivers and whether seat belts were in use remain under investigation.
