A Brown Bag Luncheon and special Mother's Day Tea are just some of the many events coming soon to the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center and Library in Durant.
On April 18, a Brown Bag Luncheon features author Kelly Stone Gamble. A couple of books that she has written are "They call me crazy" and "Call Me Daddy."
The Mother's Day Tea that's planned for May 11, especially targeted at mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and granddaughters, but boys, men, or anyone will be welcome. The program will include a presentation about the etiquette and rituals of tea-drinking, a review of tea-related books in the library's collection, and music by two professional musicians from Austin College. The catered menu will include scones, tea sandwiches, fruit, and three kinds of hot tea. This is a pilot event, to gauge whether it should be an annual event.
Reservations for the tea must be made by April 25. Those reservations can be made at the Library or by calling (580) 924-3486. It is $30/person.
June 4-July 20 is the Summer Reading Program at the Library.
Trivia night at the Library is held twice a year. The funds raised from this event help fund the "Raising a Reader program." This is primarily for pre-K and Head Start age children.
The Library offers assistance to the homeless through a Donation based program. Some of the contributors are Stronger Together, Imagine Durant, Light of Hope and Southern Baptist Association. A few areas that they assist with are: helping with getting an ID, completing a job application, a shower trailer at the library the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and clothing and blankets that have been donated.
