Man arrested following Southmayd standoff

SOUTHMAYD, Tex. (KXII) - A man was arrested Monday night after a standoff with law enforcement in Southmayd.

It happened at a house on the north side of State Highway 56, just west of US Highway 289.

Grayson County Sheriff's Capt. Sarah Bigham said that there were three other people inside the house with the man, including a minor.

Bigham said that the three of them are family members, and had been inside the home since 2 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Law enforcement said that it all started with a text from someone saying something was wrong.

Bigham said that the man had been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon about a month ago, where a protective order had been issued, which he was in violation of by being inside the house.

There was a large police presence because of his violation of that order.

Law enforcement said that two people eventually came out of the house on their own and that tactical officers then went in and got the other two people. They said that nobody was injured in the standoff.

Authorities have not released the name of the man arrested, but said the man will face more charges after Monday's events.
