SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII)- Co-owner of the Dairy Queen on Sunset Blvd. Andrea Sroufe was disappointed when she found out her restaurant is in the effected water advisory zone.
"I thought 'oh great we have to shut down,' and of course, loss of revenue and customers aren't going to be happy about that," said Sroufe.
She says the restaurant was open for a couple of hours Friday morning before hearing about the boil advisory, that's when they called county officials.
"We were just diligent enough to contact the Grayson County Health Department ourselves, and called them up and said 'hey what do we need to do here?' And they told us we need to shut down," said Sroufe.
A representative from the Grayson County Health Department says it is up to the operators of the restaurants to check to see if they are in the affected zones.
One of the restaurants in that zone that remained open today is the Burger King on North Travis Street.
When we went inside the restaurant, they were not aware of the water advisory.
We were not allowed to record inside the restaurant, but the manager told us they'd been working since 7 a.m.
Shortly after we asked them about the water notice, the manager then called the health department and shut down for the day at 2 p.m.
A representative from the health department says restaurants that remain open during the water advisory could face a fine.
Sroufe says some things are more important than the money they make in a day.
"The ice in our machines comes from the water line, the water from the soda machine, so we do use a lot of water here. Their health and safety is first above my revenue," said Sroufe.
