Ardmore high school students take home fourth straight state championship

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Talk might be cheap, but it is what brought home a fourth consecutive state championship for the Ardmore High School fine arts.

This past weekend Ardmore students brought home the state championship in speech, debate and drama.

Students spend countless hours before and after school preparing speeches and small duet acts, performing them at competitions.

17-year-old Ivan Almaraz took third at state in his event.

"It was a complete 180 from before, because my freshman year I went to state, I really didn't do so well," Almaraz said. "My sophomore year, I didn't make it to state. This year I got top three at state. And I just feel proud of myself because it was just completely different than the last few years."

However, the competition is not over.

Almaraz and his fellow students who placed at state will be taking their performances to two national competitions in May and June.
