Ardmore home ruled total loss after fire

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Firefighters are still trying to figure out what destroyed the house but they don't suspect any foul play.

A video captures the sound of sirens and flames coming from a house that sat near the corner of 9th Ave. and D St. SE.

A family was home just before 5 a.m.

They all made it out safely.

Neighbors nearby say they woke up to the sirens blaring.

"I thought it was my house," April Keena said.

April Keena says she stepped outside and saw the house engulfed in flames.

"I seen all the flames out and (it was) still going, it finally went out this morning," Keena said.

Another neighbor just down the street says she was at work at the time of the fire but got sent a video from her husband.

"Wow, that's what I thought and it's sad, I hope everyone got out okay," Rhonda Tidwell said.

Other neighbors we spoke to say they heard popping noises coming from the home which fire officials say were from gun ammo that overheated in the flames.

Firefighters were back at the home checking on hot spots just before noon Thursday.

They say they believe the fire started in the kitchen and spread throughout the house.

Family members we spoke to at the scene declined to go on camera but tell us nine puppies died in the fire.

"I'm just sorry that lost their home and their pets and God bless them. I hope everything works out for them," Tidwell said.

We're told the family is getting help from the Red Cross.
