Ardmore making changes in court

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - The City of Ardmore announces it will be making changes to its municipal court after a local lawyer made allegations of unconstitutional practice.

Attorney Jason May says Municipal Court Judge Julie Austin was keeping people in jail solely because they were not able to pay their court fines in full.

May captured an interaction between Austin and several defendants in a cell phone video.

The city announced Friday it will implement new procedures to assist Judge Austin in determining whether a person is able to pay their fines.
