An Ardmore family named their newborn after the Marcy Hospital doctor who delivered their baby.

Dr. Sneha Desai was the on-call obstetrician and gynecologist when 22-year-old Mariah Baptiste went into labor a month before her due date.

Baptiste had originally planned on naming her son Maddox, but said she changed her mind after meeting Dr. Desai.

Desai Shawn Burley was born Jan. 27, weighing under five pounds.

"She was a really good doctor, made me feel comfortable and took good care of me," said Baptiste.

Dr. Desai says this was the first time a baby was named after her in her 18 years practicing medicine.

"I was shocked, surprised and humbled when I heard that they were naming their son after me," she said.

She says it was a welcoming gesture for her, as she had joined Marcy Clinic OB/GYN in Ardmore last July.
