ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) -- A capital murder trial entering its second week ended abruptly Monday when Craig Stanford pleaded guilty to killing two men nearly two years ago.
Craig Stanford pleaded guilty Monday, stating for the record why he killed Aaron Lavers and Athony Rogers in their apartment in May 2016.
District Attorney Craig Ladd said a deal was reached with Stanford where he would plead guilty and tell authorities the location of the murder weapon, and he would not face the death penalty.
Stanford then took the stand, stating what happened that day in May 2016 when Aaron Lavers and Anthony Rogers were shot to death in their Ardmore apartment
Police say the incident started over a dispute between the men over items being stolen.
Stanford's lawyer told police on Sunday night that the murder weapon, a gun, was buried in a backyard of a vacant home next to the home Stanford was living in at the time.
Ladd said Stanford faces life in prison for the killings.
What's left to be determined is whether or not he'll be eligible for parole - and if so -- when.
That sentencing will be decided by a judge on March 7.
