ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - It was almost one year ago when Ardmore police were called to Anderson St. to find the bodies of Justin Sullivan and Karli Clearman inside a burned car.
"The confusion, the not knowing, the disbelief," Stephanie Wynns. "It's still just hard to believe."
That's what Karli's mother Stephanie Wynns and mother in law Linda Lemley say they remember feeling the morning of Nov. 11 2017 when they learned their loved one was murdered.
"I was just in shock the whole day, just standing there the whole day just looking like who could do this to her, who could do this to Karli," Linda Lemley said.
"It's just hard," Wynns said. "Nothing is the same, everything is different - birthdays, holidays, it's just all different."
In August, the District Attorney's office filed murder charges against 32-year-old Carlton Franklin for Clearman and Sullivan's deaths.
Court documents allege Franklin shot Clearman several times in the torso and Sullivan in the neck and head.
Franklin told reporters with the website, "The Frontier," that on Nov. 10 he and Sullivan left a halfway house in Oklahoma City, where they were both serving time - went to a bar and when it closed Clearman, who knew Franklin, picked them up.
Hours later Clearman and Sullivan were found dead.
A possible motive hasn't been released.
"Me and Justin's mother are very close now," Wynns said. "We talk weekly, almost daily. We want everyone to know that we are united in this , there is a bond and we are fighting this together. We're their voice now."
Wynns tells us they will be hosting a candlelight vigil Sunday at 7 p.m. at Central Park to honor the two victims.
Franklin is due back in court in January.
