Fatality wreck closes Love County road for two hours

An elderly woman was killed Thursday when a car drove off roadway into ditch and hit a tree at high speed, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said.

The single vehicle wreck was at U.S. Highway 77 between Shiggin Creek and Riley Road in Love County.

Peggy A. Ellis, 71, of Ardmore was pronounced dead at the scene. It took first responders about an hour and a half to free Ellis from the wreckage.

Troopers are investigating what caused Ellis to come off the road and into the ditch, but did say they believe a medical issue may have contributed to the wreck.
