DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - Bryan County has brand new radio equipment that will help with 911 calls in the county.
Southeastern Electric in Durant is the home of the updated 911 antenna and radio tower. City officials say the original equipment across town needed to be replaced as it needed constant maintenance.
Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian says having clear communication from the tower is important for saving lives.
"For my deputies to respond to calls, being able to communicate with dispatch and get the necessary things we need out here to rescue folks, save folks, protect lives and property. It's nice to be able to have that communication," said Christian.
Bryan County officials say the new radio equipment was jointly paid for by 18 volunteer fire departments in the county.
