California man arrested for Ada murder

HOLDENVILLE, Okla. (KXII) - A California man is in jail for murder after a 23-year-old man was found dead in Ada Thursday night.

Ada police say Tyler Gene Melton was killed by a single gunshot wound Thursday near the intersection of West 6th Street and Hope Avenue around 8:45 p.m.

Police say late Saturday night the Holdenville Police Department received information about a suspect wanted for the Ada murder.

Holdenville police say close to midnight Saturday, law enforcement executed a no knock search warrant at a house on Billington Street and arrested Jerry Gardner of Modesto, CA.

Police say U.S. Marshals, Task Force Agents and the Creek Nation Lighthorse Police K9 Units assisted in the search.

Gardner is in the Pontotoc County Jail for first-degree murder.
