Cannabis seminar benefits southern Oklahoma kids

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) One Carter County business is teaming up with the budding medical marijuana industry to give kids in southern Oklahoma a happier holiday.

Medical cannabis growers and business owners gathered at a seminar Saturday afternoon to learn more about the science and proper growing techniques for medical marijuana, such as how much light to use and specific nutrients to give plants.

The admission to the seminar was one new toy, to give a less fortunate kid a happier holiday.

Vincent Spanhanks co-owns Hydro Culture in Ardmore with Steven Johnson. They organized the seminar and toy drive.

"I've been at the bottom," Spanhanks said. "I'm in a position to help for once. So, of course, I'm going to give back to the community."

Spanhanks' business, which sells indoor gardening supplies, is also raffling a $1700 grow light and grow tent with all proceeds going toward the toy drive.

The toys will go to families in Carter, Bryan and Marshall Counties.

"(The parents are) in the position where they can't give their children the Christmas they need," Spanhanks said. "There's way too many foster kids out there...that need it."

Spanhanks said Hydro Culture will match donations from the raffle and toy drive to give back to the community which has given so much to his business, since it opened in September.

"We wouldn't be here without you all," he said.

Hydro Culture will sell raffle tickets and take new, unwrapped toy donations until December 18.
