Carter Co. inmate death lawsuit settled for $3.2 million

CARTER COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) - A federal lawsuit filed by the mother of an inmate who died while in custody in Carter County has been settled after missing documents were found at a funeral home.

Jeanne Bennett agreed to a $3.2 million settlement for the 2015 death of her son Michael Manos, 44.

The lawsuit alleged jailers did not give Manos the insulin he needed, leading to his death.

Jail officials claimed Manos rejected the insulin, but jail medication logs found this week that Manos was never offered the medicine while in custody.

The county said the settlement was in the best interest of taxpayers.
