SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - The City of Sherman could expand by more than 95 acres on the west side of town.
The area is south of Highway 82, west of Highway 289 and east of Preston Club Drive.
City of Sherman spokesman Nate Strauch said the property owners volunteered to annex the land.
He said the plan is to build around 275 houses and around five acres of commercial development.
Monday night city council took the first step and voted to approve two public hearings in the next couple months.
"So this is a corner of course that's very important to the future of the city when you talk about the city growing west as we have been for a number of years now," Strauch said.
The city hopes to finalize the annexation in December.
