SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - An east-coast inspired row of colorful townhomes now paints the highway near Washington Street in Sherman.
This is what the Heritage Row townhomes off U.S. 75 in Sherman will look like upon completion.
"Sherman didn't have anything like that so we came up with the idea," said Lincoln Golike, the vice-president of Bluestone Partners LLC.
Golike said they wanted to bring a unique design of housing to Sherman, so the Heritage Row Townhomes were envisioned about a year ago.
"It's come to fruition, so we're excited to finish them up, finish landscaping and get them leased so people have great options for townhomes in Sherman," Golike said.
Thirty-eight units, two per building, are available. Each have two bedrooms and are going for $1200 a month. The city said this is something they've needed for a while.
"We need more multi-family housing," said city spokesperson Nate Strauch. "Apartment occupancy rates in the city have been around 95 percent in the past couple years."
"We've got one moved in and a couple others waiting on move in dates," Golike said. "Hopefully here by the first of December they can pick their favorite unit, favorite floor plan, and favorite color."
At least five properties were knocked down to make way for the 19 buildings, Strauch said. Most are ready to be leased.
"When we get a place with rundown lots and put something like this close to downtown, it is really a great thing," Strauch said.
Another townhome development is in the works in Denison on the northeast corner of Eisenhower Parkway and College Boulevard.
Those will be 28 units once construction begins.
