New marina resort coming to Lake Murray in 2021
Officials with the state of Oklahoma tourism department and a private land developer said visitors to Lake Murray can expect a large scale, full-service marina on the southeast shore of the lake by 2021.
The roughly $30 million project is called
, a partnership between the state tourism department and Starboard Marina Partners.
Patrick Cox, co-owner of Starboard Marinas, said, in the first phase, a store, a restaurant and more than 200 covered boat slips will be built, set to open in May 2021.
"It's really a place to enjoy the lake lifestyle," Cox said. "We call it 'lake time'. When you're coming into Murray Harbor, you're entering a new time zone. You're entering 'lake time'. It'll be a complete experience, not just a typical marina or boat dock."
Phase 2 will bring lodging to the area, such as floating cabins, by 2022.
The land at the lake will still belong to the state while Starboard Marinas does the development.
"Starboard means right, the right side of a boat," Cox said. "Our philosophy is to do it right by our customers, the environment, our partners at the state."
Oklahoma Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell said tourism is the number three industry in the state, generating nearly $10 billion in 2018.
He said his goal is to build on that.
"This is something we've needed here at Lake Murray for a very long time," Pinnell said. "Tourism is really the front door to economic development in any state. We want to get more people to Oklahoma to see how great this state is. If they see how great this state is, they may relocate here. They may bring their business here. Certainly, we want to create a whole lot more sales tax for this region and for Ardmore. We're going to do that with this marina."
Starboard Marinas said they plan to begin pre-leasing boat slips in mid-summer.
