2 arrested for setting fire to Tishomingo school, church

TISHOMINGO, Okla. (KXII) - Two men are in custody for setting fires at both a school and church in Tishomingo early Friday morning.

Tyler Hammond, 20, and Jared Diggs, 19, have both been arrested for arson. According to Police Chief Shannon Smith, the two men admitted they set the fires because they were bored.

Authorities tell us the first fire was reported around 4:15 a.m. at the Tishomingo Middle School choir room. It's been declared a total loss.

An hour later, callers reported smoke coming from the First Baptist Church on Main Street.

Hammond is facing arson charges. Diggs faces arson, burglary, and grand larceny charges. He allegedly also stole a motorcycle.

They were denied bond at their court appearance and will remain in jail awaiting trial.

Fire marshals are investigating both scenes Friday morning.
