DAVIS, Okla. (KXII) - Davis police are warning of a new scam that tries to scare parents into handing over money.

They say a caller tells you they've kidnapped your child, and if you don't meet their needs, they'll kill your child.

The caller gives you directions on how to send the money to a location for them to get it, and all of the locations appear to be in Mexico where police say the calls are likely originating.

Davis police's Facebook post warning of the scam describes it as "unnerving for parents and law enforcement".

They say the FBI has joined the investigation.
