Delta County Jail employees attacked during attempted escape
Several people were injured after two inmates attempted to escape from the delta County Jail Wednesday evening.
The Delta County Sheriff's Office says a jailer was taking two inmates, Tyler Jones and Anthony Conley, to the recreational area when one of the inmates attacked and choked her.
The other inmate went into the dispatch area, attacked the dispatcher and tried to open the outside cell doors.
The Sheriff's office says two trustees, Gerald Thomas and Matthew Morris, restrained Jones in the garage area until an officer arrived. Conley was apprehended in a different area of the jail by an officer.
Jones and Conley were secured returned to their cells. They are charged with Escape From A Correctional Facility, Assault On A Public Servant, and Aggravated Assault On A Peace Officers
"I am extremely proud of our staff and their actions during this incident. They all practiced appropriate jail protocols for such an incident and the Jailer, Dispatcher and Commissioned Officers are to be commended for their actions. I would also like to commend the actions of the trustees. They saw members of our staff in harm’s way and they responded to help protect them," said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith.
The Sheriff's office says everyone involved in the incident has minor injuries.
