Denison distillery wins "World's Best Bourbon"
A Denison distillery took home the title of World's Best Bourbon this week at the World Whiskies Awards.
Ironroot Republic Distilling’s Harbinger Straight Bourbon was named “World's Best Bourbon” at the World Whiskies Awards on Feb. 11.
"This is by far the biggest award we've won," Ironroot Republic co-owner Robert Likarish, said.
The Ironroot Republic Distillery has won awards before for their spirits. They've won World's Best Corn Whiskey twice, but never World's Best Bourbon.
Likarish says the odds were stacked against this small north Texas distillery.
"For us, for the first whisky outside of Kentucky, or at least didn't start in Kentucky, to actually win this award is huge."
Beating our over 100 other bourbons, Likarish says they weren't the only Texomans who had a hand in the win.
"We work with local farmers to get rarer corns to grow like red corn and purple corn that are grown out here in North Texas, and Southern Oklahoma."
And Likarish says they'll be serving up some new spirits for Texomans to raise in their glasses soon.
"We've got single malt coming, so those of you who are scotch fans we've got that coming down the pipeline," Likarish said. "And then one that is a passion project here. We have great brandy, so we have a Cogniac style spirit."
