Denison family left heartbroken over slain pet deer
DENISON, Texas -- A family is left heartbroken after someone shot and killed their beloved pet deer on Friday.
Sue Eperjesi wants to know why someone would shoot her 5-year-old fallow deer, Beav.
"I cannot even imagine what kind of person who would do this to someone's pet," Eperjesi said.
Beav was shot nine times and his body was found just feet from the family's fence on Friday.
"Beav was probably standing there watching them, thinking they were going to give him a snack or talk to him," Eperjesi said. "Instead they just shot him and left."
Beav was one of eleven deer on Eperjesi's property but she says they had a special bond.
"Someone asked if he would eat an apple slice out of my mouth, so we tried it," Eperjesi said. "He actually took it out of my mouth."
Family friend, Erik Burns, posted about the incident on Facebook hoping someone would be caught bragging about the shooting.
So far, the post has been shared over 1,600 times.
"I felt it was my duty as a friend to do this," Burns said. "It angered me to see my friends hurt by the loss of their deer. It is just sick that someone would drive up, shoot a deer in cold blood and then drive off."
Eperjesi is working with investigators to find the gunman but if you know anything, call authorities.
"We are talking with the game warden and other people have told us they had pets shot that same day too," Eperjesi said. "We will see what the outcome is."
