DENISON, Tex. (KXII) - It was 11 years ago Wednesday that a pilot, Denison's own Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, made a heroic splash, landing safely in the Hudson River.
The moment is now forever known as the "Miracle on the Hudson."
Investigators say on Jan. 15, 2009, the U.S. airways flight 1549, bound for Charlotte, North Caroline, was hit by a flock of geese shortly after taking off from New York's La Guardia Airport.
The incident caused engine failure.
Sullenberger managed to guide the plane safely into the water. All 155 people on board the plane survived.
Sullenberger's actions that day made him a national hero.
