The City of Sherman says it has been selected by the federal government for a drive-thru COVID-19 testing center.

The testing center will be held Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Grocery Pickup Lane at the Walmart at the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and U.S. 75.

Sherman Mayor David Plyler said the Sherman testing center is one of the first o 45 centers across the county.

"We're pleased to be a part of that, and we look forward to using this as one more tool in our arsenal of combatting this virus," Plyler said.

Tests will be available for anyone who may be exhibiting symptoms of the virus. In addition, testing is available to all health care providers and first responders, whether or not they are exhibiting symptoms.

Anyone believing they are eligible for testing must make an appointment online at

Those being tested will need to wear a mask and stay in their cars for verification of eligibility criteria. Walk-ups will not be allowed.

The testing location uses self-administered nasal swab tests. They will be observed by a trained medical volunteer to ensure the sample is taken correctly, and then dropped in the sealed sample into a container on their way out of the drive-through site.

Results will be delivered within three to five days. Anyone with questions regarding testing can call 800-635-861.

"The site is supported by Walmart, eTrueNorth and state and local officials to test those who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and all health care providers and first responders, whether or not they are exhibiting symptoms," Walmart said in a press release.
