SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII)-- Sherman Police say that the fatal accident happened on Thursday night just before 10:30 p.m., they say that a man was trying to cross Texoma Parkway when he was hit and killed by an intoxicated driver.

Derrickus Kelsey was driving northbound on Texoma Parkway when he saw the car hit the victim.

"And a mustang was coming southbound and the guy was crossing the street and once I got a little bit close to the laundry mat, the guy was in the air when the car came and hit him," said Kelsey.

Family of the victim's fiancee tell us that the man was an employee at Taco Casa, he had just gone back to work to pick up something he forgot.

He then made his way across the street to Sonic to buy food for his fiancee, it would be the final time he would communicate with her.

Amina Omayebu worked with him at Taco Casa, and says everyone is heartbroken.

"They live right here and they walk back and forth to work, and I just know they walk this area and my heart just sank," said Omayebu.

38-year-old Melissa Thompson of Sherman was arrested for intoxication manslaughter, and released from jail after posting $30,000 bond.

Police have not released the name or age of the victim, and they couldn't say how fast Thompson was driving at the time of the accident. Or what her blood alcohol level was.

"I feel sorry for him cause I mean it was late and he was probably just trying to cross the streets from what I was looking at it," added Kelsey.

"It's just its really sad, really really sad," said Omayebu.

The victim's fiancee who is pregnant with his child is now left without a man who was doing his best to provide for a growing family.
