DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - The Durant City Council has a new plan to make their city council meetings shorter, as the city manager says meetings have lasted well past midnight.

The city staff now has an informal meeting with council members to discuss city business without debate.

Durant city manager Tim Rundel says that's when council members can ask questions on specific agenda items before voting at the formal meeting.

The new practice came into effect during the last city council meeting in December.

The next council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8.
