DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - The City of Durant received a total of $2.2 million from two different agencies to go toward building a new sludge press for the city's waste water plant.
The Economic Development Administration gave $1.5 million, while the Choctaw Nation gave $700,000 for the project.
The sludge press is used for separating solids and liquids at the wastewater plant.
Cornell Wesley with the Economic Development Administration says the project will give the area up to 75 jobs.
"With improved capacity, comes additional attraction. And with additional attraction, comes additional stimulus by way of jobs, or even create an ecosystem for entrepreneurial activity," said Wesley.
Construction companies can now bid to the City of Durant to start the project to build the new sludge press.
