During altercation, father allegedly fatally shoots son in Fannin County

FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. (KXII)-- According to a Fannin County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, early this morning at 9am, a father allegedly shot his son after getting into an altercation with him.

It happened just outside of Trenton in Fannin County at a residence on Country Road 4605.

Lt. Frank Deater of the Fannin County Sheriff's Office says that the 70-year-old father, Joseph Dowen Day of Trenton, feared for his safety during an altercation with his son, and fired a gun killing his son.

The father then called 911 to report what had happened. The son, 37-year-old Wilson J. Day was pronounced dead as a result of the shooting.

It is not clear what started the altercation. The father was not arrested.

The shooting is being investigated by the Fannin County Sheriff's Office, along with the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.
