Fire destroys Denison man's home

DENISON, Tex. (KXII) - "Everything is sitting there burning away. I stand here with a cell phone and what I got on and that's it," said Randell Hendricks.

Hendricks lives in a large metal shed, so do his two trucks, three motorcycles, and the tools he sells for a living.

He says he was watching TV inside his small living quarters with his dog, when someone who just happened to pass by saw his house was on fire, and began knocking on his door.

"I kind of brushed it off because I knew I had some trash in the burn barrel, and I even sat back down on the couch," said Hendricks.

But then he looked outside.

"Way too much smoke for that. So I came out, grabbed a hose and tried to spray water on what was on that far side of the house, but that was useless," said Hendricks.

He says the fire took everything inside his home.

"I worked on Harley Davidson's for 30, 25 years, so there's a lot of parts over there. My personal tool box full of tools in there is going up in flames. Three motorcycles, tool truck, all the inventory, big wad of cash that was in there with it," said Hendricks.

Despite losing so much, Hendricks says he is counting his blessings.

"I can't imagine what might have happened if they hadn't have stopped. I may be sitting in there overcome by smoke and not realize what was going on, or worse, my dog or something like that," said Hendricks.

Hendricks is not only thankful for the Good Samaritan, but also the Denison Fire Department.

"These guys, they work their tails off and its rough out here right now. I can't imagine what they're going through. We'll be alright. We'll come back," said Hendricks.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
