Flu outbreak forces closure of Ardmore, Mannsville schools

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Administrators at Carter County's largest public school district announced Tuesday the closure of all Ardmore City Schools for the remainder of the week due to an increasing number of student and staff illnesses.

Ardmore City Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday this week. Students were already scheduled to be out Friday for a staff professional day.

All extra-curricular activities, to include athletics, will continue at the discretion of the sponsors and coaches, the district said in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.

In Johnston County, Mannsville Public Schools is closing for the remainder of the week due to excessive illness. Schools will reopen Monday.

Ardmore and Mannsville are the sixth and seventh Texoma school districts to close this month due to flu or illness.

Lone Grove Public Schools closed Thursday and Friday last week and reopened Monday.

On Monday, both Atoka and Hugo Public Schools announced flu-related closings.

In Texas, North Lamar ISD in Paris and Detroit ISD in Red River County have both had flu-related closures this year.
