WEWOKA, Okla. (KXII) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrested a former Seminole County police officer on charges of raping a minor.

The OSBI says they arrested former Wewoka Police Officer Wendell Birt, 33, on three counts of rape, two counts of rape by instrumentation and lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16.

Investigators said in a press release a 14-year-old girl told officials Birt began talking to her on SnapChat in May and that Birt asked for sexually explicit photos over the course of several months.

The release said Birt met up with the girl three times in Wewoka, where he allegedly raped her.

Birt left the Wewoka Police Department and was working as an officer for the Delaware Nation of Oklahoma at the time of his arrest.

Birt was booked into the Caddo County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
