Former sheriff denied process server license

CARTER COUNTY, Okla. (KXII)-- A judge has denied former Love County Sheriff Joe Russell's request to become a process server.

Russell applied for the license last month in Carter County, which would have allowed him to serve papers in civil suits across the state.

Russell resigned as sheriff in 2016 after being arrested on several charges related to corruption, including allowing his son to sell meth from their home.

He cut a deal with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor last year.

The court clerk's office says they received four letters of protest, and a petition of protest with over 100 signatures.
