DENISON, Tex. (KXII) -- A former Denison city councilor who gave up her seat to run for mayor was unchallenged, and will become the new mayor in May.

Her council spot is now available.

Janet Gott, who previously held place six on the city's council, will be named the new mayor of Denison in a few months.

Gott announced she was running for mayor in January after she gave up her council seat.

Current mayor Jared Johnson says his term as mayor ends in May.

There will be a special election in May to fill Gott's council spot, and so far four people are running.

The filing date to run for the council spot ends in early March.
