SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - Goodwill Industries of Northeast Texas held it's 2nd Annual Back to School Bash Saturday afternoon.
The celebration had 15 vendors from the community including North Texas Dental, Schulman's Movie Bowl Grille and the Grayson County Sheriff's Department.
Free backpacks were given to every student.
A popular feature was the opportunity for students to drop a Sherman ISD faculty member into the dunk tank.
Marketing specialist Sarah Pierce said the event is fun for kids and stress-relieving for parents looking to save money on school supplies.
"The stress is then off the parents. The kids are having a good time, they're doing the necessity. Taking advantage of tax-free weekend and getting some great deals from Goodwill," Pierce said.
Both the Sherman High School principal and assistant principal said they look forward to the event every year.
"It's wonderful to be able to see the community come out and celebrate," said Principal Jenifer Politi.
According to Pierce, hundreds attended and many lined up outside early before the event.
"I can see a lot more growth into next year, a lot more interaction from other community members that want to volunteer and be here as well...I love partnering with other nonprofits too, because when nonprofits work together and play together, the community wins," Pierce said.
Pierce said they plan to hold the event again next summer.
